Orientation Guidelines for Teachers

To provide orientation to teachers you will need the following resources:

1. Teaching in the Savior’s Way (Digital)

2. This Institute website

3. Online Teaching Resources (Institute Teacher Manual, Elevate Learning)

Required Time: Generally speaking, an initial orientation will take approximately 30 - 60 mins

High Councillor Interview

 Resources: 

•  General Handbook 15.2 – High Councillors are welcome to take all new teachers to the Church General Handbook to help explain the role of a seminary teacher.

•  Institute Webpage – A simple reminder that there are resources online is helpful

Stake Supervisor Initial Orientation

Note: Before the Orientation it would be ideal to email the newly called teacher a link to the website to review it prior to your meeting.

 Introduction 

Introduce yourself and let the teacher know the people who will support them in their new calling (i.e. High Councillor, Supervisors, Coordinator, Administrative Assistant). (You may like to discuss a scripture together to frame the significance of their calling).

 Objective 

Show the teacher how to access the S&I Objective and Teaching in the Savior’s Way in the gospel library. Read through and discuss the objective. Review the message from the First Presidency in Teaching in the Saviour’s Way and invite them to study it regularly.

•  Pacing Calendar – Help new teachers to understand the how to gain fast access to the Pacing Guide/calendar 3 term 4 term

•  Question & Answers (note: this will always occur throughout the entire orientation)
