Secure building entrances —evacuate only if necessary for safety.
If there is a need to approach a disturbance, do so in groups.
Do not use physical force when confronting students or outsiders unless you are physically attacked.
If possible, try to calm and stabilize any hostile situation through conversation.

Keep students and faculty members safely away from trouble spots. It is easier to maintain control if students are separated into small groups.
If the disturbance is inside the building, secure classrooms by locking or barricading the doors.
If weapons or drugs are brought into the building, try to separate the individual who brought them from others. Try not to agitate or excite the individual. Ask to take possession of the restricted items.
