Missionary Recommendations

Implementing Area Presidency Seminary and Missionary Recommendations

1. Invite missionaries to attend seminary classes periodically. They might also offer to teach a class once or twice a month. Their lessons could include encouragement and ideas to help students to share the gospel.

• Seminary teachers will coordinate with the relevant missionaries for these missionary opportunities and provide at least a week’s notice for any invitation.

• Coordinators and supervisors will train teachers and help them understand the purpose of missionary involvement and how to include missionaries appropriately.

• Missionaries cannot teach a class or be with students on their own. There should still be two adults present (not counting the missionaries).

2. Missionaries to focus visits on seminary aged youth who are not attending (especially recent converts) and invite them to attend sacrament and seminary. They could work closely with ward youth councils to identify those who might benefit from a visit/invitation.

• Ward missionary coordination meetings are encouraged to include seminary on the agenda. Potential seminary attendance reports are provided to WML to help target missionary assistance with recent converts and potential students.

• Ward youth councils to include seminary attendance on the agenda and to discuss how missionaries can assist specific individuals. The youth leaders who attend missionary coordination meetings deliver the information to missionaries and receive reports.

• Missionaries counsel with seminary teachers before visiting seminary aged youth.

3. Missionaries visit students already attending seminary and encourage them to invite friends not of our faith or those not regularly attending church to come to seminary.

• An item to discuss in ward missionary coordination meetings.

4. Missionaries work closely with seminary teachers to create a culture of gospel sharing.

• An item to discuss in ward missionary coordination meetings and in stake seminary faculty councils.

Note: S&I Coordinators provide stakes with monthly reports of seminary attendance, and potential students organised by stake and ward. These reports specifically identify by name students struggling with attendance, recent converts, and potential students. Supervisors and or high councillors can ensure that these reports are provided to bishops and ward mission leaders to be used in missionary coordination meetings.
